Adaptations of Elizabethan/Jacobean Texts
2011 - 2015
The Watermill Theatre and on tour, 2011 - 2015
Macbeth, Hamlet, Romeo + Juliet, Othello, Doctor Faustus
I developed this programme of pared-down, highly accessible productions of Elizabethan and Jacobean texts at The Watermill Theatre to support local schools. Performances lasted only 75 minutes and featured a maximum of three actors to make them as affordable as possible. These touring productions became hugely popular and reached around 22,000 students.
Directed by Beth Flintoff (Othello, Doctor Faustus), Justin Audibert (Hamlet), Cressida Brown (Macbeth) and Clive Judd (Romeo + Juliet)
OTHELLO
Adapted and Directed by Beth Flintoff
A coproduction between The Watermill Theatre and the Rose Theatre, Kingston.
My production of Othello in 2012 was a coproduction with Rose Theatre Kingston, touring for 8 weeks (4 weeks in London, 4 weeks in Berkshire / Wiltshire / Hampshire) and reaching around 8,000 students.
‘There’s a real sense of playfulness in Beth Flintoff’s three actor version of Othello … a fast-paced, stripped down production.’
Public Reviews
‘Director Beth Flintoff has successfully distilled this powerful drama into a riveting, fast-paced 80 minutes.’
